Why do we fall

“Why do we fall?”

This scene from Batman Begins movie is one of my favorites. Watched it many times and still find it dazzling.

It  reminds me of what Brene Brown said in a really funny presentation here. People who cherish their lives, whole-hearted people is the term she used, are those who embrace their vulnerability. Who accept shame, fear, and all those vulnerable feelings. By the way, she is a sociologist  – a person who, she mentioned it herself , hacks into people’s lives for a living. 😀

I believe that we should forgive ourselves so that we can ask for others’ forgiveness and or forgive others. In my own term, in Indonesian, I called it: berdamai dengan diri sendiri. Then we can move on.

Speaking of which I think it is relevant to realize that we are in the first ten days of Dzulhijjah, the time which Allah loves the most. Very precious moments. Apropos of it, today I am reminded towards following ayah:

So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied. (130) And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring. (131(Ta-Ha: 130-131)

It is a good time for all of us who fall to embrace our vulnerability and ask for His forgiveness. So that we can learn to pick ourselves up. 🙂

God Bless This Mess

Sheryl Crow! Has been listening to this song over and over these past few weeks. It left a tingling sensation, a void discomfort. What an anti-war song. And it makes me kinda sad, oh.

Daddy’s in the hallway
Hanging pictures on the wall
And Mama’s in the kitchen
Making casseroles for all

My brother came home yesterday
From somewhere far away
He doesn’t look like I remember
As he stares off into space

He must’ve seen some ugly things
He just can’t seem to say

[Chorus]
God bless this mess
God bless this mess
God bless this mess

Got a job in town
Selling insurance on the phone
With Robert and Teresa
And two con men from back home

Everyone I call up doesn’t have the time to chat
Everybody is so busy doing this and doing that
Something has gone missing

And it makes me kinda sad, oh

[Chorus]

Heard about the day
That two skyscrapers came down
Firemen, policemen
People came from all around

The smoke covered the city
And the body count did rise
The president spoke words of comfort
With tears in his eyes

Then he led us as a nation
Into a war all based on lies, oh

[Chorus]

God bless this mess.

Start with why

I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe that inspiration does not come out of nowhere. It is not simply a rush of blood to the head. It is a resonance, when what you believe is triggered with what other believes. An epiphany.

If you desire to be an inspiration to others, if you desire to inspire people, if you desire to be heard, to be followed, then you need to watch this video.
